The switchable phone age officially began. Samsung has presented its worldthis week, a device called Galaxy X or Galaxy F. This was not a typical announcement with any detail on the screen such as the Galaxy S9 or Disclosure. Instead, Samsung tappened its folding phone through a short video and lifting the operating prototype into the hands of the executive on the stage.
Although Samsung has never shown a folding phone near – even behind the glass of the museum – the device is quite real. It's just conceived to earn Google's support. In fact, it seems that Samsung's project has caused itfor all folding phones, regardless of the manufacturer. Meanwhile, Samsung on Wednesday afternoon called developers to split a few more details, such as the phone .
Despite drifts and information pads, a brief component on the stage, Here's what we know – and what needs to be done.
What is your phone calling?
Samsung did not give a folded phone name, but rumors suggest it will be called Galaxy X or Galaxy F. "F" can stand for "fold" or "flex." "X" can mean "extra" or "10", as it has 9 Galaxy S phones – although we expect to see the Galaxy S10 in March this year.
What is a folding phone?
If we're in line with Samsung's definition, the folding phone is a mobile device (hence part of the phone) that looks like a tablet when it's fully open and can close it to look like your regular phone. The Samsung prototype has a screen similar to the tablet that closes in the interior as a book, but, another folding phone, has an exterior folding screen, which means the "display" is out. There is no single definition.
Did ZTE not make a folding phone?
Last year's ZTE Axon M was an early version of the folding phone that connected two separate phone screens through the center hinges. It seems that the Samsung folding phone (and Royole's FlexPai) has a unibody that shows that fold in the middle. The magnet provides the FlexPai display in a "closed" position.
We can reward Axon M with exploring the different ways of using two-screen devices; Royole has already adopted some of these, for example, mirroring the contents of both screens so people on both sides of the table can watch the same video clip. ZTE could very well make another folding device (or "folding") of the second generation.
What is the benefit of a folding phone?
There are two main advantages. First, the foldable phone can more than double the available display space. For example, Samsung's model has a 4.5-inch screen that will be used when it's closed. Then the 7.3-inch screen opens. You can claim that you have an equivalent of three screens for work.
The larger screen offers an expanded viewing area, but also unlocks the different ways you can use the device. For example, Samsung's folding screen will enable multiple tasks in three areas at one time. Zoneon Axon M lets you use a full screen for one application, load a separate application on each screen, or mirror the same application on both screens.
What happens when you open and close your Samsung phone when you use the app?
Like Royole FlexPai, this folding phone will automatically transfer the application or screen you are looking at in a closed "closed" position in the "open" position and vice versa. We noticed that there was a lag on the FlexPai, but they did not have a chance to see how Samsung would handle the transition.
What's great about Samsung's screen?
Samsung has created a new screen for its folding phone, the Infinity Flex Display. The company said it had to change the usual layers that are part of any screen (this is what illuminates the "screen" you see on the phone). All screens consist of layers, but are usually complex and immobile. The Infinity Flex Display uses a new glue that Samsung has developed to laminate the screens, so that they can fold and fold hundreds of thousands of times.
The company also needed to make the Infinity Flex display denser than any other mobile display. Reduces the thickness of the polarizer layer, which helps to read the screen by 45 percent.
When will Samsung's folding phone come out for sale?
Samsung has said it will start mass-producing the phone in "the coming months". A folding phone is likely to start selling in 2019. We expect Samsung to maintain a separate startup event to introduce details. Again, this is just whispering.
How long will it stand?
The short answer is we do not know because Samsung did not announce it. However, it is easy to assume that it will be a costly device. Royole FlexPai's rolling phone costs $ 1,318 for a 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage device. The version of 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage is worth $ 1,469.
Since Samsung's Galaxy Note 9 for power users starts at $ 999, it's a good idea that a premium folding phone can easily start with $ 1,500, if not more. We expect makers like Samsung (and Royole) to justify a high price based on the total screen property. After all, they think, you get a tablet and a phone in one – and phone prices are just getting bigger.
What is the battery life?
Samsung plans to give its slim battery life to the current Galaxy smartphone, said Jisun Park, an engineering and software group leader for Samsung's mobile business. This is despite the fact that there is an active battery discharge screen. The American version of Notes 9 lasted an average of 19 hours and 20 minutes.
Where is anyway battery?
We do not have access to design details, but batteries do not bend. Expect a large battery to sit on one side and many other components to balance them from the other side. One of the major complaints we had with ZTE Axon M was the feeling of imbalance from the pole that contained the battery drastically thicker and weaker than the other half. Samsung will have to look after it.
Is this picture what the folded phone really looks like?
Almost certainly not. Samsung showed a prototype model, commenting that the real parts were hidden inside them. Samsung is not ready for the public – or contestants – to see the final design.
If we have officially left a circular circle around the possible shape of the folding phone, it is in the new operating system of a single user interface. The company mentioned that the curved rectangular edges that make up the main motivation motif should match the rounded edges of their devices. The prototype folding phone has 90 degree edges and thick frames. We can anticipate a softer look.
What was made of the device?
Materials are a great job because buyers are forced to spend more on aluminum, ceramics and glass. But FlexPai uses a plastic screen and body to achieve flexibility and keeps costs in check, and ZTE Axon M trades the quality of the camera and other parts to keep it accessible.
It is possible that the folding phone has at least one plastic display. When CNE requested, the Samsung Park suggested during developers' talks that the external display might have a different material that surpasses the interior display. Our view is that a 4.5-inch screen could be made of Gorilla Glass while a 7.3-inch screen could be made of plastic.
Samsung did not respond to a comment request.
How does it work?
Generally, start using a folding phone as if you were using it on a regular phone, then open it when you want to use the larger screen area. Samsung did not share the details of how hardware and software messages are shared.
Will it launch on Android?
Yes, but there is more. Samsung has announced that the folding phone and future phones will be launched on a redesigned version of Samsung's custom software called One UI. Samsung has created a beta version of an UI this month, but only for Android 9 Pie users. It's a fair offer that a folded phone will run with Android Pie.
Which apps work on your phone?
They're still early, so we do not have much detail about apps. This is part of the fact that Samsung has introduced the device at SDC, its developer conference: To help support developers on board ship support. Samsung's in-house applications, such as SmartThings, will probably work on the device, and a long-time partner Flipboard has demonstrated initial efforts in the application.
Since the greatest advantage is the multitasking capability – running three applications at the same time or accessing multiple features in a particular application at once – it is for developing developers to create attractive applications that are invisibly functional on a folding phone. Samsung is relying on application developers to help with innovation as well as applications that are compatible with Galaxy Note instruments.
When do you open the device, is the smaller screen weakened?
Currently, Samsung's design will turn off the 4.5-inch screen and open your application to a larger 7.3-inch interior screen, picking up where you've cut off.
What is the Samsung Contest?
Small at this time, but the future looks fierce. Features of ZTE Axon M are not the main competitors, nor the Royole FlexPai, although Samsung has switched to a truly folding screen. But we know that LG and Huawei have their own plans for folding phones in the works. LG is rumored to launch in January at CES 2019.
Will Samsung sell folding screens to other device manufacturers?
During the SDC board on Wednesday, the developer asked when Samsung will sell display technology to its competitors. He refused to comment on this option, but Samsung is one of the world's leading display makers. It will probably over time sell technology to competitors to use them in their devices.
Is this all for real?
A folding phone can feel like a pipe dream, but this is a fantasy that could experience life. Questions about the price, convenience, and convenience of folding devices remain.
What comes after folding?
"Our innovative gas pipeline includes rollable and stretchable displays," Denison Denison said on Wednesday during the presentation.
