OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition detailed, official announcement on December 11th

Earlier this week, China's smartphone maker OnePlus announced a partnership announcement taking place on 11 December this year. The partnership is with McLaren, which makes an awful lot of sense – Huawei and BlackBerry have previously partnered with Porsche Design. OnePlus … is after something a little faster.

The OnePlus / McLaren deal is supposed to be for McLaren Edition of the OnePlus 6T but, while the event has been announced, the company has not said much about what the device entails. Since this is the internet age, however, some details have been leaked.

Interested parties can expect some hefty specs for the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition (if that turns out to be the actual title for the device). A new report suggests that users will have 10GB of RAM to play with, as well as 256GB of storage. There will be no lower-spec options. That's in line with what we've seen before with special edition handsets, which often carry high-end specs and a larger price than standard devices. The McLaren logo is also a given, so you can show off how much faster your smartphone is compared to other smartphones. And you could not be wrong about that.

Assuming the new device has most of the 6T's other specs, we can expect a Snapdragon 845, a 6.4in screen, and a dual rear camera (16MP and 20MP) arrangement. There is also a 16MP front face, for taking photos of yourself with a very expensive supercar in the background.

OnePlus' announcement takes place on December 11 in Woking, England, with a follow-up event taking place in India on December 12. South Africans will likely face the same issues as buying conventional OnePlus handsets when this special edition drops – they're going to be hard to locate and will cost more than they would if there was a proper supply pipeline in this country.
