Cape Town – The Potsdam Road between Malibongwe and Killarney was closed after protesters in Du Noon lighted a truck at the intersection and thrown stones at passing vehicles, said Saturday's Cape Town Towne Maxine Bezuidenhout transport department spokeswoman.
Bezuidenhout said that the South African police service, the police in Cape Town, and city officials in Cape Town City on their way.
Drivers are advised to use alternative routes.
Earlier on Saturday morning, Bezuidenhout said that Malibongwe Drive, in both directions between the Potsdam Road and Parkland, was closed for traffic due to a violent protest.
Between 1,000 and 1,500 protesters gathered and threw rocks on passing vehicles.
Bezuidenhout added that the protesters took the ruins on the road and ignited it.
