The National Health and Agro-Food Quality Service (Senasa) confirmed the outbreak of rabies in Tobun, San Pedro Missionary Department.
A certificate was obtained after analyzing the sample taken from the affected animal, in the Regional Laboratory that Senasa has at Candelaria.
For this reason, SENASA confirmed the preventive ban which was ordered in the index premises after it discovered the suspicion of the disease and spread to cattle-breeding facilities in a radius of ten kilometers.
The measure implies the cessation of slaughtering and movement of animals for the same, in these fields, until they complete the appropriate vaccination scheme, in accordance with the standards established by Senas.
Vaccination is mandatory in epidemics and includes all animals of cattle, horses, pigs, goats, sheep and dogs.
Senasa recommended that manufacturers immediately report on the presence of animals with nerve signs (inside or outside the epidemic) and discovering shelters where they live or suspect the presence of a vampire.
