They claim that cats carry parasites that cause schizophrenia in humans

Cats are for many ideal pets because of their independence and behavior. Hundreds of cultures have been celebrating cats for years, but now the study destroys their image claiming to carry a parasite that can detonate schizophrenia in humans.

Toxoplasma gondii spreads among people through contact with cats and eating raw meat.
T. gondii, as it is known, usually does not hurt, but scientists from the University of Copenhagen have done a research proving the opposite, since the risk of developing schizophrenia increases by 50 percent for those infected with the virus.
More than 80,000 people have been analyzed by experts from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark's blood donation study, where they found 2,000 591 people with unfavorable psychiatric conditions.
It was Dr. Kristoffer Sølvsten Burgdorf who ran an analysis of the samples of infected people, looking for traces of immunoglobulin antibodies in the presence of T. gondii.
The team discovered the parasite in a quarter of the population studied in Copenhagen, of which 61 percent of people are wearing cytomegalovirus (CMV), a virus that also causes cognitive impairment.
The study has shown that in those who are infected with T. gondii almost 50% more likely to get a diagnosis of schizophrenia than those who do not.
This confirms that Toxoplasma has a positive effect on the rate of schizophrenia, explained the researchers.

Parasite

Dr Burgdorf's associates explained that for this reason the parasites are associated with the onset of schizophrenia, except that they are not related to any other psychiatric disorder.
This parasite can prevent the action of an amino acid in the body called tryptophan, which would cause large amounts of metabolites such as kinurenic acid, a substance previously found in people with schizophrenia.
"Triptofan is also a major serotonin precursor involved in depressive disorders," the authors wrote.
According to the Daily Mail, T. gondii parasite can cause an infection in humans called toxoplasmosis, which causes symptoms of similar flu; while pregnant women may suffer abortion or the baby.
The University of Chicago in the meantime said nearly a third of the world's population was also infected with this virus that could cause psychological damage.
This university school has a share of 60 million in the United States and 350 thousand in the United Kingdom.
A healthy immune system can fight it, so its symptoms are almost imperceptible.
