Psychologist charged with child sexual crimes under bail

UPDATE at 14:20 | The man GOLD Coast and the former Scoutmaster charged with nearly a dozen historical children's sexual offenses are approved with a bail.

Dr. Robert Montgomery, 75, was arrested on Tuesday at the Gold Coast clinic in Southport.

The renowned Gold Coast psychologist was extradited to New South Wales where he was officially charged with nine counts of indictments for indecent attacks and two charges.

Allegedly, a 75-year-old man has sexually abused three 12-year-old scouts in Sydney 55 years ago, while he was the chief of scouts in the 1960s.

Dr. Montgomery appeared in the Byron Bay District via a video link from Tweed Heads police station this afternoon, where he received a strict conditional bail.

Earlier, defense attorney Colin Greatorix told News Corp that his client was "pretty depressed" and "in an awkward state" after the charges against him were raised.

FIRST at 5:00 (author Rebecca Dakin) | The man GOLD Coast was arrested and extradited to New South Wales for allegations of sexually abusing many young men in the 1960s.

The 75-year-old, who once was a scout, was arrested on Tuesday in medical practice at Southport.

There are reports that he has worked in the clinic as a psychologist and has previously treated contestants on reality TV and profiled infamous criminals.

The arrest comes after three men have filed charges last year as a man has sexually abused in Bellevue Hill, Marrickville and Waterfall when they were only 12 years old.

At that time, man was supposed to be a scout in Edgecliff and Marrickville, and the boys were all members.

Investigators filed for extradition on Wednesday and approved the extradition of the man to the Southport Magistrates Court.

The police followed him to the Tweed Heads police station where the arrest was made.

He was indicted for a ruthless attack on a man (x9) and buggery (x2).

On Thursday he was denied bail to appear at the local court of Tweed Heads.
