Seattle / Cupertino, California (APA / Reuters) – Amazon extends the range of Apple products. Immediately before the start of Christmas business, two US technology competitors agreed to expand their previously limited co-operation. The world's largest online retailer announced on Friday to sell the latest versions of iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch and other devices in the US, Europe, Japan and India over the next few weeks.
So far, Amazon offers only a limited range of Apple products, such as a Mac computer and a handsets. However, it is not included in the new offer, Apple's HomePod knockout speaker, competing with Amazon's online partner Echo and voice service Alex.
Amazon, Apple and other US technology names, such as Google, have little cooperation because they have a competitive offer of devices and services. However, Amazon and Apple now overcome these differences in order to increase sales in the key retail year of the year. The new partnership also shows that Amazone's market power continues to grow in importance for top brands such as Apple and Nike, who have long resisted the distribution of their products via an online retailer.
At the same time, Amazon is more difficult to counteract branded products. In addition, as of January 4, Amazon will remove Apple's third-party products from its bidding, which are not approved by the iPhone for sale. Nonetheless, customers would still need to buy brand-less accessories – such as headphones – in the Apple Online Compatibility Shop.
