The infestation rate in Cataguases is 2.82% of mosquitoes, according to the study
End-of-life control of the municipal health department has held the fourth stage of LIRA and LIA since 2018, from 22 to 26 October. These are Fast Index Survey Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus (LIRAa) and Amostral Index Survey (LIA), which are the methodologies used to identify and map the presence of mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever and other diseases in the municipality, an initiative encouraged by the Ministry of Health.
According to Cosme Tadeu Alves da Costa's endemic control unit, the fourth survey coincides with the rainy season of the year, so it should be considered more important – and not that other surveys are conducted every two months are not relevant – since time is best for vectors proliferation. In this fourth phase, the number of real estates surveyed by endemic agents in the city is 1,027, of which 29 revealed the presence of Aedes aegypti, corresponding to the Mosquito infestation index of 2,82%.
The results of the LIAs were shown in the agglomerations with the presence of vectors when 936 properties were tested, of which 11 had Aedes aegypti, an infestation index of 1.17%. Ten sites were tested and four had positive results for mosquitoes. In the rural area the prevailing deposits were pots or glass jars with water, jars for pots, drinking fountains in general, ornamental fountains and building materials, as well as rubber and other valuable materials that were able to remove Cosme dos Santos. However, in the report, ten properties were present in Aedes albopictus, which means that the infection was 1.07%.

Cosme dos Santos also said that the Endemic Control Center vectors strategy maintains its daily work of focal treatment and removal of deposits. Research shows the most critical areas in which work is done with greater emphasis, working all the blocks of areas where the results were positive by using larvicide and mechanical control, which is the elimination of deposits, an action that is immediately triggered after LIRA and LIA results. The coordinator also said that, according to several infectiousists in the country, the following year has a great potential for a dengue fever epidemic, as rainfall in the end of 2018 was higher than in previous years, dengue fever, seasonal disease studies show that epidemic occurs every two years . "But it is possible to break this cycle with the awareness of the population and the actions of all of us, so that denigration is actually eradicated from our country," he concluded. (Photos: Archive)
