Lake Country, B.C. a man charged with a second-degree murder three years after the death of a woman

Lake Lake Resident, B.C. accused of second-degree murder in the death of his wife.

RCMP says Arlene Susan Westervelt, 56, died on June 26, 2016, during a day of canoeing and excursion along the Okanagan Lake coast.

Police say the investigators initially believed Westervelt's death was tragic accident on the water, but after further investigation, death was called a murder.

"RCMP investigators of major criminal activities in the Southeast region are very grateful for the help of the public during this investigation," said RCMP Cpl. Jesse O & # 39; Donaghey.

Police say Lambertus "Bert" Westervelt, 63, was taken into custody without incident on Friday afternoon in Lake Country.

Westervelt is expected to appear in court on April 8 in Kelowni.
