More than 1,500 pets have been vaccinated against rabies in the region

After the end of mass vaccination against rabies, the Health Administration carried out a positive assessment in 11 municipalities in the region.

The purpose of the surgery was to prevent rabies, viral zoonoses characterized by acute encephalomyelitis, with 100% lethality even when exceptional cases of recovery were described. Transmitting the animal's saliva through the bite or contact with mucous membranes or wounds while entering the nervous system. Animals that can convey this disease can be bats, dogs, foxes, that is, hot-blooded animals.

Health Authority Balance Alejandro García was Positive "These rabies operations conducted along with our health bureaus and municipalities in the 3 provinces of the region were able to vaccinate 1,539 pets, which means mass surgery is very important so that the community can prevent rabies" .

Furthermore, the Health Authority emphasized the importance of the operation and noted that "we have received 52 bat samples received by the community, sent to the Public Health Institute, of which 4 were positive. Therefore, it is important to keep the card for vaccination with our pet . "

Operations were conducted in 11 municipalities in the region such as Canela, Coquimbo, La Serena, La Higuera, Punitaqui, Ovalle, Salamanca, Los Vilos, Paihuano, Illapel and Vicuña.
