On Wednesday, ODS, STAN and KDU-CSL will compete, no one has the majority.
Time of Milan Stjeha, Social Democratic Senate President, ends. His party did not succeed in elections in October, and only 13 were defending the mandate. The highest place in the constitutional order of the Czech Republic, the second highest, was opened to the most senior clubs, ODS and STAN (after eighteen) and KDU-ČSL (fifteen).
There are three names in the game, the current Deputy Chairman Jaroslava Kubera (ODS), STAN President Jan Horník and the Head of the European Affairs Committee, Václav Hampel. He was the first mayor of Teplice for 24 years, the second mayor of Boží Dar four years longer and the third was eight years at the head of Charles University. The Senate did not have a similar situation. Clubs most respect the nomination of the most numerous club. Only two senators were elected from two candidates, and in 1998 they were elected between Libuš Beneš (ODS) and Petra Pitharta (KDU-ČSL) between Přemysl Sobotka (ODS) and nonpartisan Josef Jařaba. In both cases, ODS representatives were more successful.
This is a more dramatic situation this year, which is more independent in the Senate. For example, Pavel Fischer has not yet decided to give his voice. "I have come to work with three political clubs, STAN, ODS and KDU-ČSL, with their presidents in strong contact, and since everybody nominates another candidate, I want to hear the first words of all three and then decide, from what I know, I think the Senate could be elected on Wednesday, "Fischer said.
The background is that nobody will win the majority in the first round, and Jaroslav Kuber and Václav Hampl go to the other. In that case, there will be a choice between the Eurosystem and the candidate Prounion, who can play an important role. For example, President of the National Club Petr Šilar warned that the Senate has an important role in parliamentary diplomacy and that Kuber is known as an EU critic who is proud of the rejection of the Lisbon Treaty.
After the release of the official nomination of Lidovecké, Václav Hampl said that the Senate has a completely irreplaceable role as guardian of the democratic system, which may be some opposition to the undeniable steps of the government or the president. "Of course, there is a possibility for improvement in the Senate, in the future should put greater emphasis on science, education, innovation or culture," Hampl said.
Jan Horník is the STAN movement icon, but he is not so well-known at the national level. In that sense, the best Jaroslav Kuber, passionate smoker, opponent of state constraints, anti-feminist and fan of the traditional family. Last year, for example, the diary said the state was trying to regulate more and more things. "After EET comes in with an electronic inventory of purchases, and the state begins to check out the shopping bags for citizens." When it's estimated that you buy it differently than it is, it will intervene. "I decided not to vote for any law restricting freedom, even if it is justified by prevention terrorism or greater security ".
While seven ANO senators have decided to support Kubra, members of Senator 21 prefer Hampl. It will be important to whom the citizens and the independent and social democrats will join in the second round. They are confident that Milan Stech will be elected as one of the vice-presidents of the upper chamber.
