The accident happened three hours ago in Horní Tošanovice. “The driver obviously did not respect the traffic signs and drove to the unprotected railway crossing at the moment when the passenger train was passing here,” said police spokeswoman Pavle Jirouškov.
The driver did not have a chance to stop the train in such a short time, so there was a collision in which both the 44-year-old driver and his underage co-driver were seriously injured.
The man remained stuck in the car, so firefighters had to free him from the rubble. They managed it after only 50 minutes, the intervention was very demanding. “Firefighters even had to move the train set up during the rescue. All units present took part in the rescue,” said firefighter spokesman Lukáš Popp.
He was then transported to the hospital by rescue helicopter. The severely injured girl, who at the time of the firefighters ’arrival was unlike the car, also ended up in the emergency room.
“Eight people traveled by train, there were no injuries. The circumstances of the accident are being investigated by criminal investigators together with traffic police officers,” Jirouškova specified.
