The very dense presence of the Garda in Virginia and Main Street remains sealed this morning after Gardaí declined what is meant to be an attempt to run into an ATM in the early hours.
It is understood that Gardaí affiliated with the Cavan-Monaghan Division, supported by national units, intervened in an attempt to rob ATMs.
Two men are currently in custody and investigations are ongoing. Motorcyclists have been forced to tour the city for the past few hours as the Gardaí launches a probe.
The ATM location next to the Riverfront Hotel is directly opposite and about 50 yards from Virginia Garda Station.
While Garda Síochána's official Twitter account posted photos of the incident along with the photo (above), Gardaí remains narrowly obstructed at the scene. One Garda said The Anglo-Celt "I don't know anything" as they deny me permission to take close-up photos.
