The main search for land, air and sea is now underway for a person who has disappeared with Co Kerry today.
It is understood that the kitesurfer, last seen around 4.00pm off Ballybunnion, failed to return to the shore.
The alarm was raised about 17 hours and the main operation of several agencies was launched.
The search and rescue helicopter at Shannon, Rescue 115, was in charge of the scene along with the Ballybunnion Unit of the Irish Coast Guard.
The Fenit RNLI rescue boat was also sent in that area, and the Irish naval ship LÉ Niamh, who was in that area at that time, was also asked to assist in the search.
The operation is currently concentrated in the area north of Ballybunnion.
Earthy crews also search the shore if a kitesurfer on land.
The search operation is coordinated by honorable officers at the Coast Guard submarine rescue at the Coast Guard in the island of Valentia in Kerry.
