More than 27.85 poor children received vaccine for measles-rubella (MR) during a permanent vaccination campaign across Jammu and Kashmir, one official spokesman on Saturday said. The campaign was launched on September 24 to cover nearly 38 lightweight children in the age group of nine months to 15 years to eliminate congenital ruble syndrome caused by rubella virus.
"A total of 37,72,960 children will be covered in the state, of which 27,85,731 were vaccinated up to date with 17,00,994 children covered in Kashmir and 10,84,737 in the Jammu Department," the spokesman said.
It is expected that the campaign will end by the end of this month against the scheduled deadline of 20 October. The measles vaccine campaign marks the introduction of a rubella vaccine in the Indian immunization program for the first time.
