Using existing CT data, Zebra-Med algorithms allow Clalita to recognize patients with a risk of osteoporotic fractures and cardiac events. Both research projects were independently validated by Clalit Research Institute and will be presented for the first time during RSNA. Clalit owns and manages 1,500 primary health care clinics and 14 hospitals, including 30% of Israeli hospital beds for acute illness, treatment of over 4 million patients.

Research # 1: "Automatic CT scan estimation for predicting osteoporotic fractures"
One of the largest osteoporotic experiments so far has been a retrospective group of 48,227 persons with abdominal CT studies aged 50-90 during five years of CT scan to assess the risk factors for the prevalence of major and hip-specific osteoporotic fractures. The results showed that the combination of automatic Zebra-Med algorithms achieves the same risk resolution as compared to the contemporary FRAX score system. In addition, research has shown that the addition of Zebra-Med's risk score to FRAX has achieved more than FRAX results.
Potential Applications: If routinely applied to all CT studies on the chest or abdomen, it would immediately increase the risk of osteoporotic fractures for all individuals over 50 years of age. This would lead to secondary treatment and possible prophylactic treatment. Currently, less than 20% of those exposed to risk are subjected to routine screening, but more than 66% are subjected to routine CT studies that illustrate dramatic potential for increased awareness and prophylactic treatment in this growing population. Osteoporosis fractures cost $ 18 billion a year in the US health care system and $ 3 for the UK NHS.

Research # 2: "Incidental CTimproves Prediction of Heart Disease"
In this study, a five-year retrospective cohort study of 14,135 patients with uninsulated, unbalanced chest CT was performed in order to examine the cardiovascular predictive power of the automatic coronary calcium algorithm (CCS) Zebra-Med. The predicted results were compared between the proposed model of the American Heart Association (AHA) 2013 and the basic model with Zebra-Med's CCS introduced as an additional predictor (enhanced model). The addition of Zebra-Med CCS improved the sensitivity and specificity of the modern AHA gold model, which resulted in an 4.5% reclassification risk category increase. The results indicate that by incorporating the coronary calcium result obtained by analyzing non-armored CT scans with Zebra-Med's algorithms, significant improvements in risk classification are achieved.
Potential Applications: According to the American Heart Association, in 2016, CVD stood America $ 555 billion. By 2035 the price will rise to $ 1.1 trillion, and by 2035 almost half of the US population will have some form of cardiovascular disease. Therefore, the relevance of this finding for research is covered by all routine-based studies, including CT in the chest, where individuals and clinicians become aware of the risk categories for stratification for coronary vascular events over the next 10 years. This insight can lead to customized and preventive therapy.
