The killing shocked the country as Katan had already disabled his victim once by shooting him in the knee. A police investigation revealed that the late Hisdai shouted, "Why are you shooting me?" Before Katan aimed at his chest and pulled the trigger. According to documents submitted by the Attorney General to the Lodz court, the second shot was intentional homicide. Hisdai died in hospital after being shot twice. He is survived by wife Dikla and two daughters.

Hisdai security guard was the sole provider of the family. His wife suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) as well as one of their daughters. Another daughter suffers from cerebral palsy (CP).

According to police, Ofir Hisdai and his wife Dikla and one of their daughters were in the car while trying to find parking at Ramle Azrieli mall on the day of the shooting. Hisdai noticed that Victor Katan and his wife's car were parked in a space designed for two cars. He then told Victor's wife, who was sitting in the driver's seat, to use two spaces instead of one.

The woman responded in a manner that led a verbal altercation between the two of them, and she began hitting him on the purse. Hisdai responded by pushing her and she fell to the ground. At that moment, Victor pulled out his gun and shot Ophir in the knee.

Court documents state that Victor's wife screamed at her husband to stop firing, but that he did not listen to her pleas.

According to Ofir's widow, her late husband first tried to ask the couple to move their car by talking to them from his open car window and got out of the car just because the Katan family had not done so.

She also said that Ofir did not intend to push the woman away, only defending herself against her attack on him.

"He will not return Ofir," she said, "but it shows that the system is working; it is him [Victor] deserves."
