Rotating Camera and Permanent Battery: Asus Zenfone 6 Reviewed – Tech News

Asus produces smartphones? Yes, a Taiwanese producer is commonly known for his computers, but for several years he has been quietly penetrating the lucrative smart phone market.

Although they do not have enough room for big names from the United States, South Korea, or China, its innovative approaches could be tempted by consumers. His latest effort is Zenfone 6, sold for about € 500 (RM2,355).

With a screen of 6.4 inches and a weight of 190 grams, this phone looks quite grainy at first glance. The front camera also seems missing. But selfie-mad cutters should not worry: the main camera rotates and sits at the top of the screen, where it can rotate 180 degrees.

"Flip Camera" is more than just a new toy selfie. Provides a neat 180 ° panoramic image with a rotating camera engine instead of clumsy human hands. The camera can also move to unique image angles using the volume keys.

The design seems rather durable: the engine turns off if it is pressed and the camera automatically switches to the phone if it falls to the ground. Asus predicts he can handle 100,000 revolutions. Time will show how real it is.

The built-in 48-megapixel primary lens and a rich set of software also provide a quality image. The lens calculates four pixels at a time and combines them into a larger 12-megapixel picture, allowing for better details, light and lower image noise. Optionally, you can also take a 48 MP photo.

There is no special zoom lens such as Samsung Galaxy S10, OnePlus 7 or Huawei P30 Pro, but there is a double increase without noticeable drop in quality.

The basic lens is complemented by a 13-megapixel, 125 ° wide lens that is a sensible addition not only to group selfies. Typical broad-lens distortions such as curved lines are largely removed by phone software.

For its operating system, Zenfone uses a slightly customized version of Google's Android 9 called ZenUI 6. Asus also expects to incorporate upcoming versions of Androids Q and R.

ZenUI 6 is good for purists and not unlike Google's reduced, cleaner version of Android. Still, it still comes with different settings, including night mode and free play mode. You can also manage multiple accounts on applications such as Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, or Twitter.

Zenfone 6 responds to its higher profile profiles in everyday work with the Snapdragon 855 processor that is powerful enough for games, videos, and extended reality. Includes up to 8 gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of storage.

And there is a battery that looks like it lasts forever, with a 5.000Mh (mAh) energy storage unit that lasts a day and sometimes the other day. Fast charging means that you can get enough energy for an extra day in the clock. Charging without cables is not possible.

In short, Zenfone 6 is an interesting concept that avoids reducing selfie quality by using the main camera. If it turns out to be popular, it's a technique that other manufacturers could soon copy. – dpa
