Univision announced on Monday the new structure of its entertainment, sports and news departments. Among the new changes was the entry of Leopold Gómez as the new president of Noticias.
Gómez has resigned as Vice President of Noticieros Televis and will take this new position following the departure of Daniel Coronello on August 1, 2021.
“Gómez is a professional news executive, with proven business results and more than 20 years of experience in charge of big and diverse news in Mexico, the market with the most Spanish-speaking people in the world,” Univision said in a statement.
Gomez holds degrees from George Washington University and Georgetown University with a master’s and doctoral degrees in political science and government. He was a news anchor and director of the weekly public affairs program Tercer Grado and writes a weekly column in the national newspaper.
He has twice received the Mexican National Journalism Award, as well as the Ondas Iberoamericano Award for Radio and Television and the King of Spain Award.
Univision noted that Televisa Noticias in Mexico will no longer be part of the Televisa-Univision combined company, and Gómez will no longer be part of Televisa’s newspaper operations in Mexico.
“Gomez’s meeting takes effect immediately. He will move to the United States in the next few weeks, ”the company said.
The new structure of the entertainment, sports and news department is led by Luis Silberwasser, President of Univision Television Networks Group.
