The importance of brain stroke – Jornal de USP

This week Professor Octávio Pontes Neto talked on October 29, the date of the World Stroke Day (stroke).

Pontes Net explains the importance of a campaign to combat the stroke in the country and how the population can become aware of the cerebral vascular affair. "Stroke is the second leading cause of death in Brazil, and in most common medical cases, if you compare stroke with myocardial infarction, severe polyarthritis, respiratory blockage, or circulatory shock, the stroke is least recognizable as intuitive as emergency populations. "

The professor said that patients who have symptoms of stroke for hours are lying on one side of the body, hard to say, their mouth is twisted, and their relatives do not recognize it as an emergency medicine. The patient takes a cure for pressure, lies and goes to sleep, thinking the symptoms will improve.

"Stroke is urgent," says Pontes Neto. "Symptoms of one-sided weaknesses in the body, difficulty in speaking and understanding, vision loss are the reasons for quick search for emergency services and call for 192."

November 10, At 20.00 pm, at the XV de Novembro, in the center of Ribeirão Preto, there are activities to raise awareness of the stroke population. The Faculty of Medicine Ribeirão Preto will be presented. "Undergraduate students, academics and health professionals will take anatomical subjects, and will also check blood pressure and blood glucose." The entire population is invited to understand what this disease is, how to prevent and treat a stroke, "says Pontes Neto.
