ALERT /// 177 cases of measles were confirmed in Moldova

Since the beginning of August this year, 177 cases of measles have been confirmed. Thus, the country maintains the "Orange Merchant Code", transmitted by MOLDPRES.

According to data from the National Public Health Agency, no new cases of measles have been reported in the first two days of September. In August, 140 cases have been confirmed, and 83 more suspects are under investigation. Currently, the patients are isolated and supervised by the physician.

According to the quoted source, the areas affected by measles last week were Chedar-Lunga, Vulcăneşti, Ungheni, Taraclia, Cahul, Hânceşti, Cantemir and Ocnita.

At the end of August, authorities issued Orange Mango Code throughout the country and said that no accompanying minors would be admitted to kindergartens and schools.

Epidemiologists remind people that measles are very contagious and spread rapidly. In uninfected communities, a sick child can infect about 20 children. The disease is transmitted from one person to the other through the air with droplets after sneezing, coughing and contact with the infected person. The first sign of infection is high temperature, which lasts for 1-7 days. Generalized eruptions occur 3-4 days after the occurrence of fever. Pneumonia is the most common cause of death in measles.

Rujeola can only be prevented by vaccination. In the Republic of Moldova vaccination is performed with a combined vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella (ROR) at the age of one year, 6-7 years and 14-15 years. Vaccination is free for all eligible persons. In the last ten years, the rate of immunization in the Republic of Moldova was 95 percent, and now it is up to 87 percent. Blackheads also exist in neighboring Ukraine and Romania.
