The data of the State Institute for Health Insurance (Dr. Milan Jovanović Batut) reported that every five people every year die diabetes and that's the rate death these diseases have increased by 8.4 percent in the last 10 years.
Diabetes is the fifth leading disease in Serbia that manifests itself as elevated glucose, blood sugar, and cells remain hungry. There are about 710,000 adults, and one third of them do not even know they have them, so they do not cure them.
– Diabetes is 465,000 or 8.1% of the adult population, while 245,000 people have no diabetes diagnosis and are not being treated. Namely, due to mild symptoms, Type II diabetes, which makes up more than 90% of people with disabilities, can last for years, according to Batut.
During this time, elevated sugar cardinalises the nerves and blood vessels, which can cause hypertension, infarction, stroke, blindness, gangrene and kidney damage.
The first symptoms of diabetes are frequent urination and great desire to enter any kind of fluid, smell of urine and breath to acetone. Symptoms of this disease are exaggerated food demand, then feeling of exhaustion, weight loss, vision problems, frequent infection, tingling and loss of sensation in the hands and feet, sensitive dental stains, skin problems.
At the risk of getting diabetes, they are mostly obese, and then people who eat a lot of candy, white sugar and carbonated juices, those who do not have enough physical activity, are under stress. Otherwise, the annual treatment of patients with diabetes in Serbia amounts to EUR 230 million, or EUR 490 per patient.
