U.S. health officials have allowed the emergency use of antibodies to help the immune system fight kovid 19, an experimental drug used to treat President Donald Trump last month when he was infected with the corona virus.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. to treat patients with mild to moderate symptoms to prevent disease development and hospitalization.
The drug is administered individually intravenously. The FDA has approved its use in adults and children over the age of 12 who weigh at least 40 pounds and for high-risk patients.
Regeneron said initial doses would be available to about 300,000 patients through the federal government’s distribution program.
Patients will not pay for the drug, but may have to bear the cost of intravenous administration.
