NEW YORK. April 8, 2019 / PRNewswire / – Dr. Schar Now (Lyndhurst, NJ) brand foods suitable for kidney function, FLAVIS joins the National Foundation of the Kidney to Promote the Benefits of Special Nutrition for People with Chronic Disease (CKD). FLAVIS, offering a wide range of bread, pasta, snacks and baking products, offers nutritional solutions to patients after a low protein, phosphorous, sodium and potassium-rich diet. The National Foundation for Kidney Diseases is the largest, most comprehensive and long-term organization dedicated to the patient dedicated to the awareness, prevention and treatment of kidney disease.
CKD affects 15% of adult US populations. This disease progresses in more stages as the kidney function decreases. Some studies have shown that medical nutrition therapy (MNT), which uses a low-protein diet, under the guidance of a nephrologist and a registered dietician (RDN), may slow down that decline. Through this partnership, FLAVIS and the National Kidney Foundation will provide an educative approach to healthcare professionals who promote the importance of MNT and proper nutrition for patients with CKB in order to improve their diet and quality of life. Medical Nutrition Therapy for CKD, conducted by a registered dietician of nutritionists, highlights an individualized nutrition plan based on the clinical status, goals and inclinations of each patient. MNT for CKD patients involves one or more of the following: reduced sodium, phosphorus and protein intake, together with sufficient energy, high fiber content, and reduced saturated fat intake. Potassium can also be restricted if the patient has high levels of serum potassium. The benefits of MNT include reducing the risk of complications due to elevated blood pressure and diabetes, decreased uremic toxin levels and maintained renal function over time. MNT studies with Americans with CKD have shown that only about 10% of those who have the right to this nutritional counseling support. FLAVIS products are a good source of energy and fiber and have little protein, sodium, phosphorus and potassium. These products can help people with CKD maintain the function of the kidneys and improve the outcomes of the disease. In partnership with the National Foundation of Kidney, FLAVIS aims to provide education and awareness of the benefits of MNT in promoting improved quality of life in the CKD population.
