Bratislava, November 28 (TASR) – The amnionic membrane, the most acclaimed placental placenta, helps in the treatment of unhealthy wounds and thus represents a major breakthrough in regenerative medicine. This was stated by pharmacist Ľudmila Kišeláková and other experts on Wednesday in Bratislava.
The product was developed in Brno for five years, and by the end of 2017, an observational study of 50 chronic wounds was performed in 45 patients in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. "80% of patients were able to significantly reduce the size of the wound or completely close them" says Kišeláková. Some chronic wounds were up to 13 years. Based on these clinical experiences, experts in the Czech Republic and Slovakia recommend the amniotic membrane as a suitable method of treating the diabetic foot. It is also suitable for other skin defects. In Slovakia this preparation prepares or prepares for Kišelák's amniotic membrane for early, dermatovenerological, diabetic and surgical workshops in Svidník, Levoča, Dolno Kubin, Ľubochni, Banska Bystrica, Košice and Bratislava. The use of amniotic membrane has not yet paid for insurance companies in Slovakia.
One of the patients whose new treatment was helped was Sonya from Hlohovec. She was 11 years old with a chronic wound. "The method is minimal invasive, nothing is to be cut, the membrane will just lie down, moisten and cover the wound" says Zdeněk Kořístek from the National Center for Tissue and Cells in Brno. The same procedure lasts only a few minutes, but if the membrane application is appropriate in the particular case, the doctor must evaluate it. For example, a patient must not have an infection.
"Chronic wound is defined as a wound that does not heal for six or eight weeks" Kořístek approached him. It is often associated with diabetes, but it can, for example, be a varicose, decubitus and skin sores of different origin. The wound was constantly infected, hurt and dramatically hampered the quality of life.
