The Kia EV6 shows where the “electric cabinet” should be. This is the first step for the new, transformed Kia brand under the new slogan: “Inspirational Movement”. Based on the company’s dedicated battery electric car (BEV) platform and designed according to the new design philosophy of “Opposites United”, the Kia EV6 crossover is already launching features for the next generation of electric cars.
Thanks to 800V technology, the Kia EV6 can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. The GT version is a performance model that can withstand 0 – 100 km / h in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 260 km / h. By 2026, Kia will expand its all-electric model range to 11 models, seven of which are based on the new Electric-Global Modular Platform, the E-GMP.
– EV6 embodies the new Kia. It inspires every journey with bold design, innovative technology and exciting electrical performance, he says Ho Sung Song, President and CEO. – The EV6 also marks the beginning of Kia’s long-term commitment to sustainable mobility, accelerating the transition not only to clean transport but also to products, materials and manufacturing.
No new design instructions
A new design language should have found inspiration from nature and humanity. At the heart of the design philosophy is “a new visual identity that evokes positive strength and natural energy, with contrasting combinations of sharp stylistic elements and elegant shapes”. Lots of nice words for a car that has a design that isn’t in demand for the Jaguar I-Pace’s mind.
In the distinctive tiger nose for the Kia EV6, the Kia EV6 has transformed into the so-called “Digital Tiger Face,” a developed design language for the electrified era, where headlights show a sequential and dynamic pattern of light. The sloping line of the roof of the crossover ends with a really nice design and a light signature at the back. External dimensions, length-width-height are 4,680 mm, 1,880 mm and 1,550 mm (GT 1,545 mm).
Flat architecture of electric car with the battery under the floor provides a versatile and spacious compartment. Lightweight and elegantly designed relaxation seats are made of recycled plastic, which matches 111 PET bottles. The wheelbase of 2,900 mm makes the interiors comparable to a spacious mid-size SUV. Luggage space is 520 liters or 1300 liters with folded rear seats. Under the hood is a 52-liter (2WD) or 20-liter (AWD) front boot.
The slightly vaulted high-resolution display, consisting of dual 12-inch displays, gathers the instruments in front of the driver while infotainment and navigation are displayed above the center console. The Kia EV6 also has an AR (augmented reality) head-up display that projects graphics onto the windshield in the driver’s field of vision, such as a warning from the driver assistance system or guidance via navigation.
Long range, all-wheel drive and zero emissions
In Sweden, a larger one is offered of two battery options, long range 77.4 kWh. Another alternative to batteries is 58.0 kWh (not in Sweden). The two-wheel (2WD) model reaches a range of up to 510 kilometers with WLTP charging. The Kia EV6 has a 168 kW (229 hp) rear electric motor, and for the all-wheel drive version and an electric motor that drives the front wheels, a total of 239 kW (325 hp).
Top model Kia EV6 GT has twin motors (AWD) of 430 kW and 740 Nm of maximum torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h takes 3.5 seconds, and top speed is 260 km / h (preliminary figures). The Kia EV6 GT is also equipped with an electronically controlled differential that provides safe and controlled driving and road characteristics in all conditions.
– The combination of outstanding charging speed and acceleration in the GT performance that the super sports car shows in our technical leadership. With a dedicated EV platform, there is no need to compromise between inspiring spaces and performance, he says Albert Biermann, Head of R&D Hyundai Motor Group.
800V ultra fast charging and vehicle load function (V2L)
The Kia EV6 supports both 400V and 800V charging, without the need for additional components or adapters. The car can be charged quickly from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. Or charge for 4.5 minutes and then reach 100 km range (2WD). The car’s charging system is more flexible compared to previous-generation electric cars thanks to an integrated charging control unit (ICCU) that allows energy to be transferred from the car’s high-voltage battery via the vehicle’s function to load (V2L).
The V2L function can deliver up to 3.6 kW of power, which can come in handy if you want to ride electrical appliances, charge electric bicycles / electric mopeds or camping equipment. The system can be charged by another electric car as needed. The Kia EV6 can thus function as a wheel drive. As a tractor, the Kia EV6 weighs 1,600 kg of trailer weight.
Increases range and efficiency
The EV6 is equipped with power recovery range maximization technology. This includes Kia’s latest generation of energy-efficient heat pumps that dissipate waste heat from the car’s cooling system. This ensures that a car at seven degrees below zero can reach 80 percent of the range that would be possible at 25 degrees.
Below are the EV6 versions will be open for pre-orders on March 30 on the Swedish market. Prices are before deduction for the climate bonus of SEK 70,000 (April 1).
