Wild exchange of shots, open defensive mistakes: Borussia Dortmund received the next serious failure in the spectacular opening of the second half of the season against Borussia Mönchengladbach. On Friday night, BVB stayed away from home for the third time in a row with a 4-2 draw and must fear the Champions League qualifiers more than ever. Borussia vom Niederrhein, still undefeated this year, moved next to Dortmund to fourth place in the Bundesliga table after their first win against Westphalia in almost six years.
The team of coach Marco Rose, whom BVB is fiercely courting, achieved the third victory of the hosts this season against the first division team after the success against RB Leipzig and FC Bayern. A double shot by Dortmund’s super striker Erling Haland was not enough for BVB, which ended a disappointing week with just one point from games against Mainz (1-1), in Leverkusen (1-2) and now in Gladbach.
But Nico Elvedi, also with a duo, Ramy Bensebaini and substitute Marcus Thuram, made Gladbach’s victory perfect. Breel Embolo, who made headlines last week, started on the bench and was replaced in the 70th minute. (dpa / alp)
