Rice is available in various types: wild rice, basmati rice, jasmine rice, tart rice, black rice and red rice are just a few examples.
The healthiest is, however, brown rice, because it contains the most fibers of all.
This causes the level of blood sugar after consumption to be less powerful – and we will also stay full longer.
This could also be the reason why Japanese scientists now discover in research: People who consume brown rice instead of white are less likely to eat.
Researchers wanted to find out if the weight developed differently depending on the variety of rice.
The team's focus was on whether there was a link between the consumption of different types of rice and the risk that they would get three kilos (or more) after one year.
For this purpose, 437 factory workers from Japan have been analyzed health records. The participants are then divided into two groups: one usually consumes white rice, the other brown.
In addition, it was noted how much rice was consumed by the workers.
White rice = higher risk of gaining weight
After one year, scientists have found that people who consume a lot of white rice have a higher risk of getting three kilograms (or more) than those who ate a little white rice.
This could be so specific because other factors such as age, gender, or consumption of other foods were previously excluded as a reason for increasing the risk of weight gain.
On brown rice, on the other hand, the result was quite different: those who ate a lot of brown rice did not have an increased risk of such a big increase in one year.
Replace white rice with brown
"Research results indicate that consumption of brown rice / multiple rice is useful for body weight control," the study concludes.
Replacing white rice with brown rice could prevent it from gaining weight – and preventing obesity.
