The best recipe for beef

Crescendo, the star of every Sunday dinner was the creamy and rich meat sauce of our mother. It was famous for its warm and comforting Sunday meals, especially mashed potatoes and salsa. The extended family members always clamored for an invitation to his table. One of our uncles (who will remain anonymous) came to dinner once, filled his entire plate with mashed potatoes and then covered the whole thing with the mother's sauce. Hey, no judgment here, Uncle Anonymous. We're just jealous and we have not thought about doing it before!

Homemade beef sauce with beef broth

The dripping from the meat of the main course is ideal for the best sauce. Use that glorious stock left over from cooking the meat for your sauce. If there is not enough fat and liquid in the pan, here's a simple trick: add meat broth and a little butter. The sauce needs a little bit of that good and delicious fat for a better consistency. If you do not have drips, do not worry, just follow the recipe below for a simple beef broth sauce!

Can I use beef broth instead of beef broth?

Yup! Stocks that have been slowly boiled from bones, condiments and vegetables (usually the triplet of carrots, celery and onions) add a much deeper flavor to the sauce. But if doing all of this at home seems daunting, there are several can or carton options in your normal grocery store.

Beef sauce with flour

We like the cornstarch based method when you prepare the sauce because it is a bit more forgiving and easier to do when you have the beef drip. If you do not have the maizena by hand or you prefer a roux sauce you can still use this easy recipe! Simply melt the butter, add the flour and mix until the flour is cooked, then blend in the beef broth and the remaining ingredients.

Is Gravy Beef gluten-free?

Most meat sauces are NOT gluten-free. Beef broth or broth generally contains a good amount of gluten. But if you use a gluten-free stock (check the labels!) And prepare this recipe with cornstarch, you'll have a delicious gluten-free sauce.

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine butter, meat stock, onion powder and garlic powder. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.

  2. Reduce heat and boil slowly.

  3. In a small measuring bowl or liquid cup, combine cornstarch and water, stirring until well combined.

  4. While drinking CONSTANTLY stock, slowly add the cornstarch mixture to the saucepan. I like to pour about a tablespoon at a time to measure consistency. You may not need all the cornstarch mixture, only add until the desired consistency is achieved.

  5. Add the beef broth (or Kosher salt – I like only the depth of flavor that adds beef broth compared to upright salt) and pepper to taste.

  6. Cook over a low heat for 2-3 minutes. Serve on potatoes, rice, poutine or your favorite meat dishes.
