Here's a fun fact for you: almost a third of us move the house in the summer and, according to a new survey from the Compare Price website Compare My Move, August is the most popular month for realignments. While this means that many people have sweated through the heat wave and have unpacked their belongings, they are now ready to show off their new seats. It is only polite to take something with you when you go around admiring their pillows (or, in my case, seriously envy the period).

Whether the recipient is hiring or has managed to climb the property ladder, they will appreciate the kind of gift that seems a little decadent to buy alone or that will brighten up a space. I will always be grateful for the scented candles that masked the smell of moisture in a not so healthy London apartment. And let's not forget that moving is a very expensive affair, therefore, shelling out for a jazz house probably will not be on top of someone's list.

We have probed Poolers to find out their favorite homes. All these gifts make promises that will be well received in any period of the year. Or is it something for yourself to come payday.

The vegetation always goes down well

You do not need space to appreciate plants and if the recipient has outdoor space or not, there are plenty of options at the bag to bring some greenery to the party. We are big fans of apartment plants – they are not only beautiful on Instagram, they help to purify the air – and patch plants are our go-to, but if you suspect that someone can not be considered reliable for keep one alive, then go for a harder to kill cactus or a terrarium that can fill with low-maintenance succulent plants.

There are not too many bowls

Small bowls are always a winner. My favorite trick is the decantation that plunges into a jazz dish to make it look like I did them myself (I mean, who really has time to play down three different types of hummus?). The best will fit on the shelf if someone does not have a lot of storage space and will be robust enough to operate in the dishwasher. Same with serving dishes. Oliver Bonas has a good range of assisted services at affordable prices that seem pleasantly expensive.

The tea towels are no longer de trop, fans of the houses. A number of Poolers whom I interviewed said that they are their favorite practical gift because they are indispensable for any kitchen but not something you want to spend money on. There are a lot of interesting designs out there and more color, the better (to hide any stains until the day of washing). Anthropologie always has a good selection of beautiful and bright options. For more excitement, try the American Blue Q brand.

The soap is elegant

Yes, the humble bar of soap is back, people. Imperial Leather will not cut it, so go elegant. The Liberty gift sets are a gift to be received and moved away from the flowers with her trios – grapefruit and the yuzu is a new favorite. Or try The Soap co, which sells ecological items made in the UK by disadvantaged workers; the braille on its logo reflects the fact that a large number of company employees are visually impaired.

Jugs and carafes are versatile for the pleasure of the crowd

Not just for serving drinks, pitchers and carafes can double as vases or candy. Tk Maxx has a good range – see also its pots at discounted prices The Creuset pots that were out of the price range of this round-up and the jugs somehow give off a vibration that you have your crap together, good enough to accommodate at least one dinner.

The candles make life a little better (and infinitely more fragrant)

Scented candles are a bit extravagant to buy for you, so give one to someone else. We would go for soy, without artificial chemicals or aromas, and there are many small independents if you want to stay away from predictable choices. Earl of East has a large selection of perfumes to suit all tastes and the brown glass packaging has a minimal-cool atmosphere.

The coasters are fantastic

Have you swore that you're never the one who insists on coasters? All this goes well until you actually pay for your furniture and you realize why your mother was so militant about the ringing. The compensation is that there are a lot of favors coasters out there that are an economical way to give a personality to a room. When I first moved into my apartment, my aunt bought me a set of coasters from Gillian Kyle's Tunnock, who are still going strong six years later and receive many compliments.

Go for something that will make them smile

Scandi's minimalism is all very good, but everything that's back is not very funny. I'm a cheeky kitsch fan so I was very happy when Zoe Anderson from the East London boutique of Worship W.A Green introduced me to Wedgie's joy. The brand has reinvented the humble doorstop and turned it into a mini-piece of art that pays tribute to influential figures. Everyone, from Frieda Kahlo to Karl Lagerfeld, is represented as my favorite, Ginger Spice (I am a son of the nineties after all). For something just as irreverent but a little thinner, try Helen Blanchaert's ceramic mugs with their witty illustrations and a little bit of it. brazen.
