(Reuters) – The Supreme Court of the Netherlands has rejected attempts by the Ecuadorian to annul the decisions of the International Arbitral Tribunal to impose on Ecuador to prevent the execution of a $ 9.5 billion verdict against Chevron Corp anywhere in the world, the US oil chief .
Chevron said the Dutch court upheld the verdicts of the two lower Dutch courts dismissing Ecuador's attempts to annul these awards.
"The Dutch Supreme Court found that the disputed arbitration decisions were in line with public policy and justified in order to prevent a non-refundable damage to Chevron," the company states.
Earlier this month, the Supreme Court rejected claims that attempted to force the Chevron Canadian unit to pay $ 9.5 billion in a verdict passed in Ecuador against the company due to pollution in the Andean country.
Residents of the Equatorial Region Lago Agrio are trying to force Chevron to pay for water and soil pollution caused by Texaca in 1964 to 1992, which Chevron bought in 2001.
The villagers in 2011 received a verdict against Chevrone in Ecuador.
The final decision adds several court victories that Chevron won against the plaintiff and his legal team in this case.
