Cape Town – Free states of the stars had a bad day at the office after falling on Wednesday to 3-1 defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loft Versford.
The free goalkeeper was unlucky when Lebohang Maboe's turn from the right flanked the defender Jeremy Brockie, who hit the first-rate goalkeeper who played Badra Sangare 17 yards away.
Early opening was given by Mamelodi Sundowns, and Aubrey Ngoma pulled a ball from Bangaly Keita inside the area to the left by 24 minutes to win the penalty. Sangare went right, but Sirino hit the left side of the net.
Gaston Sirino showed his class three minutes later, after winning the right side of his back and knocking before firing with an unstoppable left foot shot outside Sangarea 21 yards away.
The stars got a glimmer of hope 10 minutes before the halftime when Harris Tchilimbou pulled one back. Judas Moseamedi put the ball right on the left wing and let loose the ball to Tchilimbou who knock it in for Reyaad Pieterse.
Sangare split double save by 55 minutes to deny first Brockie and then Ngoma in close proximity, and the visiting goalkeeper was well placed to strike in New Zealander in 66 minutes.
Sirino pulled the strings for Masandawanu, but the Stars did well to limit his performance in the second half. Uruguayan have been able to test Sangare with a long range of 10 minutes.
Ea Lla Koto was looking for a way back in the final stages, but Downs kept tight on their backs and asked for all three points.
